Kelvin was a product concept for a portable medical device that would induce mild hypothermia in those suffering from a heart attack.
Research, development, and design for Kelvin spanned two years. Studies at that time showed that reducing body temperature in the pre-hospital environment could reduce the risk of brain damage due to lack of oxygen to the brain during cardiac arrest. Kelvin was conceived of and developed by our team, InnovateLife, which consisted of individuals from four disciplines: Business, Graphic Design, Industrial Design and Engineering. Our team received grant funding for research and development through the Edson Student Entrepreneur Initiative and was featured on Bloomberg’s series “Innovators” discussing Kelvin’s use of biomimicry in its design.
